HARVEY NICHOLS

HARVEY NICHOLS - www.harveynichols.com

Harvey Nichols hardly needs an introduction. The renowned department store is internationally coveted as a sleek, luxury retailer and top destination for Londoners and tourists.

Not only is Harvey Nichols known for its fashion and beauty, it’s also a must for food lovers.
And of course, gluten free.

With five dining choices including the acclaimed Burger & Lobster, Zelman Meats and Yo! Sushi as well as beautiful bars, an impressive Food Market and the OXO Tower, it’s easy to get lost in the world that is Harvey Nichols.

First things first, (HN) truly understand gluten free and recognise the importance of cross-contamination. With allergens, you will only be served by one member staff so that there is only one point of contact with the kitchen, and they are more than happy to adapt and accommodate their dishes.

The Fifth Floor Café is a beautiful spacious restaurant, filled with light overlooking the rooftops of Knightsbridge. The all-day menu is all about seasonal produce and caters wonderfully for gluten free, leaving you spoilt for choice.
With offerings, such as Thyme marinated baby beetroot with feta cheese & a citrus dressing, Oven roast organic salmon with Jerusalem artichoke purée, tender steam broccoli, champagne & lemon butter, all the sides (including hand cut chips!) and desserts like Coconut parfait, mango jelly, fresh mango, coconut sorbet. It really is a dream.

It’s hard to choose my recommendations but I must mention the following…
Firstly, the hummus and gluten free bread to start. The hummus was exceptional in taste and texture and the bread was perfect, it was savoury, light and fluffy, didn’t crumble and had a decent amount of crunch.
Secondly the – maître d’ recommended – Braised Ox cheeks, smoked garlic mash potato, sautéed wild mushroom in a red wine jus was sublime. Packed full of flavour, with the most tender of meats, I was absolutely blown away.

The Food Market is an open space on the top floor, standing the middle of all the restaurants and is filled with unique and selective (gluten free friendly) brands.
The dry goods on offer range from Joe & Sephs popcorn, Choi Time teas, Smith and Sinclair Cocktail Confectionary, Harvey Nichols own brand gin, and The Wild Peanut butter.
The Food Market is great in finding a hidden gem, a special gift and stocking up your cupboards.

Tucked away in the menswear section on the lower ground floor, Wallpaper* Bar + Kitchen is a wonderful addition to Harvey Nichols, it’s contemporary, slick and the right kind of environment to focus or chill.
With options to eat in or take out the simple menu offers traditional breakfast options such as Eggs Benedict and a range of stunning sandwiches on Beyond Bread gluten free multigrain. They also serve pressed juices, Illy coffee (with semi skimmed, skimmed, soya or almond milk) and have a full bar.

Recommendation – Stirloin steak, carmelised onions, mustard dressing & rocket sandwich on GF bread.
