At the top of the Heron Tower, 40 floors above the energetic buzz of Liverpool Street, is Duck & Waffle; a 24 hour all day dining experience that not only lives up to the hype, it surpasses it.
With a breathtaking view of London's skyline, Duck & Waffle manages to merge the vibrancy of the city in a laid back and somewhat intimate setting, it's ideal for a special occasion, a treat or just a really, really good quality meal.
The short menu is compact with 'not your everyday' dishes that are bound to wet the appetite and gluten free options are plentiful! Mention your dietary requirements and you'll be looked after well. The talented chef's are more than willing to adjust dishes and the seamless staff have great knowledge of the mostly gluten free friendly menu. They also prepare their waffles separately, thus reducing the risk of cross contamination.
From the mouth-watering bacon wrapped dates to beef tartare and whole sea bass, the idea is that many dishes can be shared, that is if your willing...
Naturally on my visit I had to try their signature dish (the duck and waffle) which was a triumphant mix of sweet and savoury. The duck and egg were exquisitely prepared and the waffle was - quite possibly - the BEST I've ever eaten, it's traditional, fluffy and best served doused in their maple and mustard sauce. Paired with a crisp glass of champagne or one of their renowned cocktails and you've had a meal worth boasting about.
Despite the numerous GF options, I was initially disappointed to find that ice cream and sorbet were the only desserts that were gluten free, that was until I tried the yogurt and elderflower & apple flavours... and my dessert went from sorbet to sorBAE.
It's hard to put a price tag on Duck & Waffle, you can spend anywhere from £45 a head (1 snack, 1 main, 1 glass of wine, shared dessert, 1 coffee + tip) to a few £100 ordering multiple sharing plates and trying out the extensive wine menu.
There really aren't enough words (or emoji's!) to describe Duck & Waffle but one is thing is for certain, I will be returning.
